Mila the Cake shop has been open since 2008 and was the dream-child of Pastry Chef & Owner Louise Veldhuizen. After working at Meerendal Wine Estate for two years with chef Wade van der Merwe, Louise moved to London; and under the guidance chef Eric Landlard, Louise perfected her skills in creating cakes and desserts fit for a king. A small trip to Spain inspired & infused the idea of a cake shop, and so the Mila came to South Africa.

Situated in the very heart of Stellenbosch, Mila stands its ground in Dorp Street: the old main street of the town, in which there are many handsome old whitewashed houses, some of them with elaborate Cape Dutch gables. With its similarities to a European~style confectionery, Mila offers a fresh range of couture desserts, made freshly on the premises each day, which can be ordered over the quaint glass counter- of course to be enjoyed on the porch in full view of the magnificent surroundings.

The warm and hearty coffee shop is colorful and ideal for breakfast, lunch or even just a coffee with friends.

A sneak peak at their artistic treats include dark chocolate and hazelnut mousse; beetroot and hazelnut cake; and flour less almond, orange and apricot cake.
Mila has  trained barista’s, serving the finest Hazz Coffee and Nigro Teas. A selection of the day’s newspapers are always available, making it a perfect stop in the morning for ‘just-out-of-the-oven’ croissants with fillings. On the daily menu, there are also savory lunchtime options.

Desserts also vary depending on what the kitchen concocted during the early hours of the morning, and specialty cakes are made in full view of the shop’s interior (a treat for all kid’s eyes who seem fascinated by the bowls of chocolate floating around…) Options range from: Chocolate sachertorte, Apple tarts with creme patisiere filling.
